Ok, this has been something I have always been confused about. In book 1, when Darrow meets Mickey for the first time, he describes Mickey’s sigil as a purple mask, instead of the triangle thing that we see now. Is that a subcaste, or was that a mistake?
You can read the Violet sigil as a mask pretty easily: the upper arrows being eyeholes and the lower as the mouth! Since it’s Darrow’s first time seeing a Violet, you can forgive him for not immediately grokking the design, I bet.
