Hyperion reference with the Shrike tree?
Lmao Nero is such a bastard. Excited for more!
Impaling them on the shrike trees. Of course. Boy, just when I couldn’t hate the society enough, I have to find out what they did to the Dark Revolt after. Words cannot do justice to the sheer depraved, subhuman bestial nature the society truly is and how they waste their intelligence with an imagination for cruelty and pettiness.
You get a wonderful sense of Tennyson as a character over just a few pages. I am here for all his sass. Also I know he sucks but I sorta loved Nero in this chapter. The man has gravitas. Plus his almost lover level of jealously over Darrow sneaking out to visit Old Stoneside? Honestly kinda hot… (don’t judge). AND the mention of Nero’s gift to the Votum gives me hope we might get Darrow’s visit to Mercury in this book (pretty please). Also love any and all Dark Revolt tidbits, feels like the Servile Wars on steroids.
My thinking was that it had already happened, since Darrow made a comparison in episode 1 between the outer wall of Lorn’s estate and the outer wall of Heliopolis. Since Sons of Ares Volume 3 had Nero give his lancer candidates a real-world mission as the final trial to officially become a lancer, my theory is that Darrow’s final trial was delivering the box to the Votum.
Oh you are probably right! I missed that reference in Ep. 1 and I am still on Sons of Ares Vol 2.
Hey Howlers! Anyone else having a harder time reading this prose compared to the first Episode? It seems like the font is kind of fuzzy for Episode 2. Anyway to improve the clarity perchance?
i could zoom in on the pages of episode 1 but i cant on episode 2. can you fix this it makes it a bit harder to read
never mind my computer was just wonky
So sorry about the tech issues! Should be fixed now.
Thank you 🙏
Makes me smile to see Lorn again. That man is a hurricane. What a great character. We are loving the great work, PB.
I love how Nero knew. It makes the Gala scene and even just the logistics of how much of the blade Darrow learned in a short time make so much sense.
Also, Nero feels so much more formidable with his hand on every piece of information. Sad we did not see that as much in Golden Son.
Lastly, I love Nero’s timing of leaving Lorn at the exact moment Darrow shows up. Another way to show his complete control over all the details.
I love how early Darrow is in constant tension of his past Red self and his new Gold self. Not that it’s gone in the second arc of the series, but it’s just so constant here – rightfully so! I’ll also admit I do kind of like Nero here, more so I love to hear more of the backstory of the worlds now that we as readers know more context of the universe, families, etc.
